The story of how 'Old Joe' crushed MAGA again
A State of the Union reflection you might not see anywhere else
This is not my usual substack style but I hope you’ll indulge me in a moment of undisciplined joy after the SOTU. I mean, he crushed it, right?
There was glee in MAGA land this week, As the State of the Union approached. They knew Old Joe was growing weak, The topic of dementia was often broached. Sean Hannity set the table. Prepping folks to see Joe stumble, He said the man is no longer able, and cautioned folks he might just crumble. Yes, MAGA land was optimistic as the day drew near. They called Old Joe a dated antique, Then set their traps and prepped to jeer A man they thought was just plain weak. Ms. Greene, the one who knows no shame, straightway caused a ruckus about our border. Even before he spoke, she pointed the finger of blame. And in that tumult the Speaker gaveled order. We all saw what happened next. Joe took the stage and spoke with strength. Behind him Speaker Johnson shrank, perplexed. He wasn't weak and he spoke at length. He said hate and recrimination are what’s old. And called on us to be better. He said the United States can still be bold. Over his shoulder Mr. Johnson’s face grew wetter. An hour went by and Joe was not finished. He had smashed so many MAGA lies- Their schemes and their swagger, now deeply diminished. But he saved time speak of our ties To each other, to our ideals and to enduring truth. And that, more than the rest, spoke to his youth.
