In a crisis, Biden leads and seeks unity, but there is no crisis that MAGA won't use to sow division and discord
The on-going MAGA and FOX political BS is an insult to the dead
I missed President Biden’s speech on Israel and Hamas earlier today, so I went online to find it. The first thing that popped up was this:
Biden ripped after the speech? When I found the video, I was prepared to listen for things that could cause such criticism. Needless to say, I did not find it.
The speech was a terrific speech. The President did what a President should do- He stood with our allies, he represented our values, he condemned in the strongest terms the acts of terror. He informed us of the steps he’s taken, both militarily and diplomatically, to keep this tragedy from escalating into a larger war and to hold the terrorists accountable. He called on Americans to unite in this moment, and he called on Congress to pass supplemental aid. Throughout he did spoke with gravity, determination, and compassion.
Every tragedy offers us the chance to come together as Americans. Every tragedy is also an opportunity for those who hate us to sow disunity. The graphic from FOX and the social media it so gleefully amplifies, is an example of this hatred. Russian propagandists are cheering as bad actors here at home do all they can to keep us from coming together even around something as clear as a massive terrorist attack.
It is beyond shameful. The dead in Israel, the hostages in Gaza, the Palestinians who, for too long have been used as Hamas’ human shields, they all deserve better. Every American hoping our country will meet its own challenges deserves better. But this crowd doesn’t know better. They only know worse.
I am grateful and deeply impressed that the President, his administration, and many Democratic members of Congress are able to stay focused on the important job at hand.
The good news is that the nonsense was mostly limited to FOX and members of the GOP. Nearly all of the media coverage was positive.
While the President does his job, and much of the media does theirs, the rest of us have to stay focused on getting rid of the MAGA threat turns even tragedies like this into cheap partisan stunts.
