By the dawn's early light... our flag is still there. Act now to keep if flying.
Morning has come, and the Senate continues to resist Trump's terrible law
This morning the sun rose on the America we all still love. The Senate has not yet passed this terrible law, despite working through the night. I am not alone feeling lot Francis Scott Key as dawn revealed the tattered American flag still over Fort McHenry.
Trump’s big bill enacts project 2025 into law and transforms America into a police state while taking away health care, food, education, and public safety from ordinary Americans to make billionaires even richer. The administration and its allies are pushing with everything they’ve got to get it passed. So far, a handful brave Senators have slowed them down.
I urge you to reach right now to every Senator you can. For reference, here is the letter I submitted sent to Senator Murkowski earlier this morning:
Your courage has been on display these past few months in ways that inspire hope across the country.
Now, as the pressure mounts to pass the truly terrible reconciliation bill, not just the whole country but generations to come will know that the most fateful decision about our nation’s character was yours to make.
What will our future be if we give this president $45b to build an internal prison system? What we become of us if we destroy the health care of millions without providing an alternative? What will become of the earth if we turn our backs on the fight against climate change? How will society hold together if the gap between the wealthiest and the rest of grows larger still? Instead of answering g those questions, this ambitious bill rushes to silence them with authoritarian certainty.
I do not envy you the weight of history or the pressures of the moment. But if the courage you have shown is, as it seems, deeply authentic, then we might yet avoid deciding all in a rash moment of turmoil and instead continue to fight step by step for a more perfect union.
The pressure on Senators from the administration is immense. We must not let it go unanswered this morning. Everything depends upon it.
